Obituary for Dolores Jean "Dolly" Tannehill (French)

Dolores Jean "Dolly" Tannehill (French)
Dolores (Dolly) Tannehill, 90, of West Bend, went to her eternal reward on Thursday, December 7, after a brief time at Kathy Hospice. Born in Chicago, IL, on July 22nd 1927, to Clarence John French and Julia Margaret Yost, she attended schools in Chicago and ultimately received a Bachelor’s Degree from Mount St. Scholastica (now Benedictine College) in Atchison, KS. There, she met Robert (Bob) Tannehill of Kansas City whom she married in 1949.

Dolly, as she was known to one and all, developed an early interest in travel when, as a young college student, she traveled to pre-Castro Havana, Cuba to study Spanish for a semester. The travel bug took to her to most of the states in the U.S. including Hawaii and Alaska. During her life she would make her way to China, Japan, Egypt, Israel, England, Ireland, France, Germany, Austria, Czechoslovakia and Italy. Her love of animals took her (in her 80s) to the Arctic Circle to see the polar bears in the wild, and to Africa on Safari. She took many cruises with friends and family including her 50th Wedding Anniversary Celebration with Bob in the Caribbean. She loved to camp, and trailered at Harbor Village in Door County until her final year.

Dolly enjoyed multiple careers during her life. Starting as a legal secretary in Chicago, she would venture into marketing for restaurants and management of shopping malls. Her interest in clubs, community and charities, led her to participate in many organizations like The Red Cross, The Red Hat Society, The Wisconsin Extension Homemakers, HCE (Wisconsin Association for Home & Community Education), The Sweet Adelines, Elderhostel (now Road Scholar), Wisconsin Bookworms, and many others.

Dolly is survived by two sons: Kevin Tannehill and his wife Karen of Hollywood, CA; Scott Tannehill and his wife Jenny King of Scottsdale, AZ; three grandchildren including Caitlin Woolley and husband James of Westminster, MD, Joseph Tannehill of Los Angeles, CA and Sophia Tannehill of Scottsdale, CA. She is also survived by her beloved cat, Patches.

Visitation will be Monday, January 8th, at St. Frances Cabrini Church of West Bend at 10 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial 11 am, Fr. Nathan Reesman officiating. Interment will follow the next day at Winneconne Cemetery.

Memorials are appreciated in lieu of flowers to the charity of your choice.
