Obituary for Al Galovits

Kewaskum - Al Galovits was born into eternal life on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, age 75.

To Al, his family was everything. He was: a devoted husband to his wife of 49 years, Marcia; a beloved father to Betsy (Dan) Lee and Brian (Sara) Galovits; an adored Grandpa to Connor Lee, Emme Lee, Alex Galovits and Annabelle Galovits; a treasured brother to Rosie Ledger, Katherine Farina, Helen Pullen, Julie (Ray) Christiansen, Ronnie Hoffman, Dave (Linda) Galovits, Pat (Dave) Hansen and Mickie (James) Fields; a kind uncle to many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; and a dear friend.

He is preceded in death by his parents Ben and Rose Galovits, his brothers Ben Galovits and Mike Galovits, his brothers-in-law: Jim Otwaska, Loren Ledger, Tony Farina, Marko Puskarovich, Ken Pullen, Roger Hoffman and Jack O’Daniel and his sister-in-law Bev Galovits.

He was born on September 10, 1946, to Benedict and Rose (nee Kovach) Galovits in Racine, Wisconsin. Al graduated from Washington Park High School in Racine, then studied data processing and computer programming at Milwaukee Area Technical College. He began working for Mobile Oil, then spent the majority of his career with the telephone company (Wisconsin Bell, IBM, Ameritech, AT&T). He retired from AT&T in 2009.

On Sunday mornings Al served many years for the church as usher, Sunday school bus driver, Sunday school teacher and also a long-time AWANA leader. He was an avid fan of Wisconsin sports, especially his Green Bay Packers. He was a wonderful cook and foodie who embraced his Hungarian heritage and could make a mean stuffed cabbage. He was also a great grill man with a specialty of BBQ chicken. Beyond his culinary interests, he was an ardent reader and investor, a keen student of current events, a movie buff and king of the dad joke, but his ultimate happiness was found spending time with his family.

He will be most remembered as a tall but gentle and soft-spoken man, and exhibitor of great kindness and a Christ-like example of love and sacrifice.

A Funeral Service will be at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at Kettlebrook Community Church (2378 West Washington St. West Bend, WI 53090) with Pastor Troy Loether presiding. Visitation will be at church on Tuesday, April 19th from 4:00pm until 5:45pm. Full military honors will follow the service.
