Obituary for Alice M. Derer (Harrison)
Alice M. Derer (nee Harrison), age 90, passed away peacefully at The Kathy Hospice on Saturday, March 23, 2019 reuniting her with her husband Frank. She was born on September 9, 1928 in Alden, MN to Henry and Janet (nee Jordan) Harrison. Alice married the love of her life Frank J. Derer on September 4, 1948 at St. Bernard’s Church in Madison, WI and then they made their lifelong home in West Bend.
After high school she worked in Madison as the supervisor at Bell Telephone Company and then at West Bend Telephone Company. Alice had various part time jobs while raising her family such as; crossing guard, teacher’s aide at Barton Elementary, volunteer work at church and the hospital. Her greatest love was being a wife to Frank, a mother to her 3 children, grandmother and great-grandmother. Alice’s greatest gifts were love, friendship, laughter, graciousness and joy. She touched everyone she met until her final days. Family life and friends brought her the most joy. She loved people and never missed a chance to make new friends. She belonged to many card clubs with bridge being her favorite. Alice enjoyed the summers at their cottage in Three Lakes, WI and after retirement many Winters in Florida enjoying new friends and activities.
Alice is survived by her children, Judy (Mike) Nee, Barb (Tom) Krutza, and Jim (Sandy) Derer; grandchildren Dan (Karla) and Dustin (Denise) Mayer, Lindsay (Adam) Schroeder, Jeff (Tiffany) Krutza, Jamie (Nick Cotrill) Krutza, Sarah (Luke) Misiak and Mike Derer; and great-grandchildren Kassidi and Jaxon Krutza, Drew and Evan Misiak, Seager Cotrill, Dylan Mayer and Everly Alice Schroeder is due in early April. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Alice is preceded in death by her parents, loving husband Frank, brother Harold (Betty) Harrison, sister Ida (Ron) Motiff and her dear lifelong friend, JoAnne Vilbrandt.
A Gathering of Friends and Family will be held on Sunday, March 31, 2019 from 1:00PM until 2:30PM at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel (1420 W Paradise Dr. West Bend, WI 53095) with a Private Family Service following.
Memorials are appreciated to the family for a nursing scholarship in honor of all the caregivers who gave their love, hugs and care to Alice through the years.
