Obituary for Bernice Clara Fetzer (Salevski)

Bernice Clara Fetzer

March 16, 1941 – February 19, 2024

Bernice Clara Fetzer (nee Salevski), age 82, was peacefully called to her eternal home on February 19, 2024, at her home in West Bend. She was born on March 16, 1941, in Milwaukee, WI to the late Edward and Clara (nee Solminski) Salevski.  She grew up in Milwaukee and graduated from Washington High School. She was a loving wife to George for 62 years, and they were blessed with two daughters, six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

Bernice was a homemaker when her daughters were little. She worked for United Cerebral Palsy Respite Homecare for over 20 years and worked in several homes taking care of disabled persons. She has kept in contact with some of these families and called them friends.  Her last job, where she worked for 15 years, was Kohl’s Department/Distribution Center as a retail/warehouse associate. She made many friends, and she got together with them for lunch every couple of months even after retirement. She always called them the “The Kohl’s Ladies”.

Bernice was a dedicated Christian, bringing joy to everyone around her. She attended church all her life and was a part of many ministries – food pantry, women’s ministry, choir, street corner ministries, bible camps, coffee hour and Good Samaritan’s Purse. She was a nurturing, caring person. She raised her nephew from the age of 11 to adulthood and welcomed him into their home.  She and George took care of her mother in their home when she became sick. Also, as George’s parents could no longer live by themselves, they took them into their home as well.

Bernice enjoyed many things, especially baking.   She made cakes and decorated them beautifully. She baked for the “coffee hour” at her church for over 10 years.  One of the families’ favorites was her Heath Bar cake.  She made chocolate molded candy for all occasions. In summer, she went strawberry picking. As you may know, she collected ceramic angels, and she had over 240 angel ornaments just on her Christmas tree.

Bernice adored her grandchildren, and they adored her. She’d invite them over for sleepovers, having tea parties, making cookies and crafts when they visited.

Bernice and George traveled to many places, and one of her favorites was Hawaii. When she returned home from Hawaii, she cried describing its beauty.

Bernice is survived by her husband George, her children: Kathleen, Joyce and her husband Ken, older brother Harvey and his wife Mary, younger sister Carolynn and her husband Jeff, grandchildren: Burnell, Bridgette, Alyson, Nathanael and Cassidy, great grandchildren: Aaden and Carter. She (Aunt “B”) is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Bernice is preceded in death by her brothers, Theodore, David, and Alvin, and her grandson Craig.

The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at 3:30 pm at Phillip Funeral Home (1420 W. Paradise Drive, West Bend). A Visitation will be held before the service at 2:00 pm at the funeral home. A cake reception will follow the ceremony at George and Bernice’s condominium.
