Obituary for Sharon Ann Teufel (Genova)

Sharon A. Teufel (nee Genova), age 66 years, entered into heaven on Friday November 2, 2018. She was born on June 30, 1952 in Milwaukee to John and Marilyn (nee Rehm) Genova. Sharon is survived by her husband, Larry, of 45 years, two children, David (Annie) Teufel and Stephanie (Scott Maas) Teufel, a granddaughter Audrey, who made Sharon’s heart glow, her mother and stepfather, Marilyn and Robert Peglow, one sister, Karen (Dan) Quinlan, two brothers Brian and Mark (Catherine) Peglow, and also by many other family and friends. She is preceded in death by her father John Genova.

Sharon retired as an engineer from the Wisconsin Telephone Company (AT&T) after over 30 years of service. While in high school, she started as a long-distance operator. She held positions in customer service for most of her career. Her most rewarding position was working third shift in a service repair call center. Sometimes, when calls were few, she would help callers who were lonely and needed to talk to someone. On many occasions she was able to persuade callers to seek help for substance abuse, physical abuse or suicide prevention. She would transfer them to the appropriate help line and if necessary, remained on the phone to get a conversation going for the ones that didn’t have the strength themselves. For many years, Sharon was a union steward of the Communications Workers of America. She would represent employees who were unfairly treated. Her skills earned her the respect on both sides of the table. Unfortunately, her career was cut short by a stroke in 2001, resulting in her retirement.

A Visitation for Sharon will be held Friday, November 9th at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel (1420 W Paradise Dr West Bend) from 4:00pm until 7:00pm, and again on Saturday, November 10th at St. Catherine’s Church from 10:00am until time of mass. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am St. Catherine’s Catholic Church (5101 W. Center St. Milwaukee) on Saturday, November 10th.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Renee Jahnke and the staff at Aurora Medical, the staff at The Samaritan Home of West Bend, and Allay Home and Hospice. Their extraordinary service far exceeded the expectations of the family. The family would also like to thank, Sharon's friend, Dr. Harmeet Singh Arora of Bombay, India. They would spend hours playing chess on the internet, and he provided her with homeopathic and spiritual guidance.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to St. Catherine’s Parish, 5101 W Center St, Milwaukee WI, 53210. Sharon is a graduate of St. Catherine’s grade school.
