Obituary for Carrie Sue Palmer (Swanson)

Carrie Palmer

In loving memory of Carrie Palmer (nee Swanson), born July 12, 1960, who passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 9, 2024.  Carrie was the beloved wife to Mark and loving mom to Drew.

Following Catholic grade school, she attended Kewaskum High School where she graduated in 1978.  She received her teaching degree in Spanish from UW Whitewater and immediately began her teaching career, helping her students not only learn the language, but better understand Hispanic culture. Carrie spent time studying in Peru during college and attended many high school Spanish trips with her students. She also hosted numerous foreign exchange students throughout the course of her teaching career. She was very passionate about Hispanic art and her favorite artist Pablo Picasso. She touched many lives up to her retirement from Hartford Union High School in 2016.

Carrie dedicated her life to her family and spending time with them.  Holidays were always special occasions and opportunities to create lasting memories with them.  When she wasn’t cooking, baking, or spending time with friends, you could find Carrie tending to her garden. Carrie also enjoyed crafting, specially making wreaths, and having stamping parties with friends. Carrie was proud of her son, Drew, and his accomplishments in life.  She especially enjoyed watching Drew play collegiate baseball at Trine University. Carrie and Drew connected in many ways, and she supported Drew in everything he did. Carrie had a passion for baseball and loved visiting new stadiums and traveling with her husband Mark. Carrie felt a deep connection with German Shepherds and was very close to all three German Shepherds in the family – Brandy, Brutus, and Bruno.

Carrie was preceded in death by her youngest brother, Robert, her father LeeRoy, her mother-in-law Phyliss and father-in-law Bill.  She is survived by her husband, Mark, son Drew, mother Margaret and brothers Joe and John.

Though we will miss her with all our hearts, our memories will live on as we celebrate her life.  Carrie was a most courageous and strong person whose faith was important in her life.  We are comforted in knowing that she now rests in Jesus’s loving arms and is rejoined with her father and youngest brother.  May she rest in peace.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Saturday, March 23rd from 10:30am until 12:15pm, with the Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30pm, at St Lawrence Catholic Church (4886 WI-175 Hartford, WI 53027). In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Diabetes Association would be greatly appreciated.
