Obituary for Cassandra B. Staver

Cassandra Bee Staver, 59, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, July 8th 2019. Cassie was born to Demosthenes and Lois Staver on December 24, 1959 and was the youngest of 4 children. She had a special relationship with each of her siblings. Family was important to Cassie and she made it a point to spend time together – whether it was on a girl’s weekend away, a family trip to Mexico, an impromptu stop just to visit or a shopping trip. Each time she spent time with her family, it was special. Although her brother Demo, and sisters Debbie & Jenny were Cassie’s older siblings, they were each other’s friends and protectors and their bond, unbreakable.

Cassie was born to be a mother. She was full of love and cared deeply about each and every person that came into her life, but the most important people to her were her two sons Nick and Jason, with her first husband, Douglas. Her life was spent ensuring she raised two boys who emulated the strength and manners of her father and who cared deeply for everyone around them. Her love and legacy will always live on within her sons – her love of motorcycling, her devotion to family and faith in God.

Cassie married the love of her life, Jack, in Jamaica in February 2002. The love and partnership the two shared was undeniable. With that marriage came two more boys to teach and guide – her stepsons Jason and Shawn. Cassie selflessly became the matriarch of this family of six, realizing the most important role for her in this life was caretaker. Jack and Cassie loved exploring the country on their motorcycles – whether it was her favorite places around the Kettle Moraine or some new adventure out West, her fun loving and free spirit made any and every ride an adventure.

Cassie lived every minute of her 59 years as it was her last. As a devoted mom and wife, Cassie always put herself after her sons and husband. As a sister and friend, she gave herself without question. Cassie will be missed by many, but especially by her husband Jack Merkel; her sons Nick (Jenny) Crawford & Jason (Anne) Crawford; stepsons Jason and Shawn Merkel; siblings Demo (Carly) Staver, Debbie (Harold) Wilke, Jenny (SteveO Schenck) Staver; nieces Arianna (Sean) Naughtin and Jenna (Ryan) Olson; her grandnephews Nolan Naughtin and Miles Olson; and her grandniece Makenzie – for there is a very special spot in Cassie’s heart. Preceeded in death by her parents, Demosthenes and Lois Staver. Cassie had many friends who were like family and we will all miss her contagious laugh, bright smile and her eye for a good bargain.
