Obituary for Dorothy Celia Foscato (Krchma)
Dorothy Celia Foscato of Wabeno, Wisconsin, passed peacefully into eternal life at the age of 92 on Monday, December 2, 2019, surrounded by love with family by her side at New Perspective Senior Living Betty’s Harbor in West Bend, Wisconsin.
Dorothy is survived by her sister, Audrey (Everett) Kane, and her 11 children: Jim (Jane) Foscato, Kathy (Jim) Hochevar, Greg (Helen) Foscato, Margaret (Bob) Gintoft, Tom Foscato, Bob (Shari) Foscato, Terri (Brett Simerly) Watson, Chris (Jim) Armstrong, Tony Foscato, Linda (Mike) Cole, and Michele (Mark) Sukovich.
Dorothy’s love shone bright in her role as grandmother to her 25 grandchildren: John, Richard, Kirsten, Shana, Zach, Jessica, Dominic, Vince, Drew, Bryce, Jeremy, Melissa, Mia, Ryan, Chelsey, Maureen, Carolyn, Tory, Darcy, Nathan, Lauren, Jon, Megan, Matthew and Marshell, as well as her 28 great-grandchildren. Dorothy also spread her joyful love into the lives of her many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Vincent James Foscato. She is reunited with her infant son, Douglas, whom she held dear to her heart, as well as her parents, Edward and Emily Krchma, and her twin brother Donald Krchma.
Dorothy grew up in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, where she attended Henry Clay Grade School and Whitefish Bay High School. She was an active participant at Saint Monica Catholic Church, and it was here that Dorothy married the love of her life, Vincent, on August 10, 1946. Soon thereafter, the Foscato family began to flourish. Dorothy felt the warmth in her heart expand with each child. On Mother’s Day in 1960 the family was featured in the Milwaukee Journal. Dorothy was quoted, saying, "Love multiplied; more and more fulfilling."
Dorothy was a woman ahead of her time. She always was reusing and recycling, exercising daily with long walks (or even an occasional Polka), eating lean meats and cooking healthy meals to feed the masses. She knew how to prepare venison, smelt, and of course the occasional raccoon! She lived a service-driven life, always volunteering at church as a Christian Mother, singing in the choir, lending time and love whenever and wherever she could help.
Dorothy and Vince (whom she affectionately referred to as Buddy) enjoyed many adventures. They hosted many a Christmas Eve family party and New Year’s neighborhood parties serving many pounds of fresh boiled shrimp, and entertained countless friends and family at their winter home on the Atlantic Ocean in Juno Beach, Florida, or at their summer home on Trump Lake in Wabeno, Wisconsin. She loved the enjoyment of a pontoon ride surrounded by family, with a scarf on her head to protect her perfectly rolled hair, usually with a Manhattan in her hand.
Dorothy was a true matriarch to so many. She had the magic to quiet any infant and always had a tissue up her sleeve to share, just in case. As her family continued to grow over the decades, she would spend hours writing cards and letters to all of us, sharing news of her and Vince’s latest adventures. Her family adored her one-of-a-kind slang - ziggity zag, diggity dog, wonderbar, GragchKey, BotKey, and God Bless America - just to name a few! Her beautiful singing voice and peppy whistle will always rejoice in our hearts forever.
A Catholic Mass celebrating the life of Dorothy Celia Foscato will be held at St. Frances Cabrini Church (1025 S 7th Ave, West Bend, Wisconsin) on Friday, December 13, 2019, at 12:00 p.m. Visitation begins at 10:30 a.m. in the church. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at St. Ambrose Catholic Cemetery at Wabeno, Wisconsin, on Saturday December 14, 2019, 11:30 a.m.
Dorothy's family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the caregivers at Betty’s Harbor New Perspective Senior Living and The Pavilion at Glacier Valley who provided so much kindness to Dorothy in the final months of her life.
