Obituary for Erik W. Odness

Erik William Odness, 27, of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, formerly of West Bend, Wisconsin, passed away unexpectedly on February 8, 2024.

Erik was born on February 8, 1997, to Chris and Heidi Odness in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  He grew up in West Bend playing football, baseball, and wrestling.  He developed many lifelong friendships along the way.  Erik graduated from West Bend East High School in 2015.  After high school, he became an electrician apprentice.  He became a licensed journeyman electrician in 2023.  He was a member of IBEW Local 494 in Milwaukee.  He loved his chosen trade, and he was proud of his work.

Erik was a free spirit that thrived in nature.  He had a great sense of humor.  He loved cool cars, his motorcycle, a good Old Fashioned, a game of cribbage, and was a big Packers fan.  He also loved to hike, fish, kayak, and a good bonfire.  He was a fierce competitor in all yard games, and he loved his time with family and friends.  Erik really enjoyed his two most recent trips; one to Utah with his immediate family, and the other to Sedona with his girlfriend, Hannah.  “The sun shines not on us, but in us” is a quote by John Muir, and during those trips, and his life, the sun shined through Erik.

Erik was preceded in death by his uncle, Erik Odness; his great grandparents; and a couple of good boys - Reggie and Ole, who were sure to greet him in heaven.  He is survived by his parents, Chris and Heidi Odness; his sister Elizabeth; his brother Jack; the love of his life Hannah Laurila; his grandparents Jerry and Cheri Odness, Glenn and Missy Bougie, and Judi Bougie; and many more loving aunts, uncles, cousins and great friends.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 17th from 10:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 1 p.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church, 140 N 7th Ave, West Bend, WI 53095

For those who knew Erik, you knew he loved his Hawaiian shirts.  Feel free to honor Erik by wearing one to the service, or for those who are unable to attend, think of him when you wear yours.

When you’re by the bonfire, playing bags or cribbage, or just enjoying the outdoors, take a moment to raise a toast to all of the wonder and joy that Erik brought to this earth.  We sure will miss him. May God bless his soul.
