Frances Crass (nee Mergenthaler) passed away on Monday, February 24, 2020 in Slinger at the age of 88 years. She was born on May 1, 1931 in Slinger to Fredrick and Mary (nee Scharfenberg) Mergenthaler. She attended school until 8th grade which was common in those years. On September 11, 1948 Frances married Roy Crass and began her family. She enjoyed doing needlepoint, crocheting and collecting figurines. She also was a gardener. Frances and Roy going to Florida in the winter and taking bus trips around the country. In their younger years, they were known for their dancing.

She was a member of St Paul’s Lutheran Church of Slinger and later, St John’s Lutheran Church in Mayville. She was active in T.O.P.S. and K.O.P.S. and was very proud that she was the 1980 WI Area K.O.P.S.Queen. She also was a scorekeeper for Slinger baseball leagues and was active in the Ackerville and Slinger Snowmobile Clubs.

Frances in survived by her daughter Joyce (John) Witczak Sr of Mayville, her grandchildren; Angela (Lee) Wenninger, John (Wendy) Crass, Gregory Schlink, Troy Crass, Andrew Crass, Ryan (Stephanie) Crass, Melanie Crass, Kelly Koenings, Frances (Kyle) Ellenberger, and John Witczak Jr., 20 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren and brother-in-law Everette Crass, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roy, her son Royce, her sister Rosella (Walter) Traczyk, brothers; Ray (June) and Valentine (Ann) Mergenthaler, and her infant brother Walter, her siblings-in-law; Florence, Gladys, Wilmer, Lorraine, Carlos, Russell, Joseph Jr., Edna, Helen, Merlin, Donald, Bill, Esther, Ray, Orville, Bruce and Phillip.

The family will have private graveside prayers at Union Cemetery in spring.
