Obituary for Joseph "Joe" Weyerstrass Jr.

Joseph “Joe” Weyerstrass, Jr., age 81, passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at his home in West Bend, with family at his side.  He was born in Paterson, New Jersey on June 13, 1942, to Joseph and Herta (née Fern) Weyerstrass, Sr.

Joe was a 1961 graduate of Paterson Technical and Vocational High School, Paterson, New Jersy.  He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the USS Valley Forge (LPH-8) as Boilerhouse Foreman, until his honorable discharge in 1965.

That same year, Joe married Cheryl Hoeft in Paterson.  They had three children.  Later they divorced, though remained life-long family friends.

In 1969, following a friend’s suggestion, Joe moved with his family to Brownsville, Wisconsin. There he worked as an electrician, including for 33 years at the Level Valley Creamery in West Bend.

On December 26, 1993, he married Louise Breu, daughter of William J. and Dorothy L. (née Blessing) Breu.  They moved to Florida in 2000, living in Polo Park East, Davenport.  After 10 years, Joe retired from work as an electrician at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Living so close to Disney World, Joe and Louise were often gracious and welcoming hosts to relatives and friends.  In 2021, after enjoying the Sunshine State for more than twenty years, they returned to Wisconsin to be closer to family.

Joe enjoyed playing golf, diamond art, and cards.  He followed the Packers, Brewers, Bucks and Badgers, and the athletic careers of his grandchildren.  Joe was a family man who adored his children and grandchildren.  He was also an animal lover who loved all of his “grandpups”.  He loved Jesus, and passed the love of his Lord onto his family.

He will be missed by his beloved wife of 30 years, Louise; his loving children, Todd (Lori) Weyerstrass, Troy (Stacey) Weyerstrass and Traci (Troy) Hanke; and cherished grandchildren, Aubry Weyerstrass, Matt (special friend Gabriella), Makenna and Marshall Hanke.  He will also be missed by siblings-in-law, Bill (Chris) Breu, Barbara Hirsch, Janet (Duane) Hufnagel, Ken (Leah) Breu, Bob (Gail) Breu, Susan Breu (special friend, Dwight), Marilyn (David) Peters, Tom (Sylvia) Breu, Chuck (Shelly) Breu, Jeff (Marie) Breu, Margaret (Joe) Zirneskie, and long-time special friends, Cheryl Weyerstrass and Dennis Fell.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Hilda Solymosi, and his parents-in-law, William and Dorothy Breu.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.  Memorials in Joe’s name may be sent to Cornerstone Church, Davenport, FL, or to a charity of your choice.
