Obituary for Joyce A. King (Morton)
Joyce King, a lifelong resident of Baldwin, Wisconsin, died at her residence in West Bend, Wisconsin on June 21, 2019 at the age of 96.
Joyce was born on November 21, 1922 to Alger Carl and Anna (Rud) Morton, but was raised by her beloved paternal grandmother, Emma Morton and grandfather, Carl, in Gilmanton, Wisconsin. After graduation from Gilmanton High School as a 16 year old, she attended college at River Falls and received her teaching degree. That is where she met the love of her life, Jack. They were married on June 3, 1944 in Mondovi, Wisconsin and spent their first years together at Fort Sheridan were she taught incoming GI’s to read.
Joyce and Jack settled in Baldwin, Wisconsin and started their family. Joyce was a stay-at-home mom raising Terry, Candy and Jeff until she resumed her teaching career after her youngest started school. Joyce was not only a wonderful, loving mother, but also an excellent, caring teacher who inspired many young people as she taught them how to communicate and create through writing and literature. Joyce was also the first Reading Specialist at Greentree Elementary School, and once again, her compassion and expertise helped children reach their potential.
After Joyce and Jack retired they began to travel and attended Bible school in Florida. Both Joyce and Jack loved the Lord and were involved with Gideons International and prison ministry as well as opening their home to the original meeting place for New Life in Christ Church.
Joyce was a compassionate woman who loved her family dearly and wanted to be used in God’s Kingdom. She missed her “Jack” dearly until the moment she left us gaining her strength and courage from God until he called her home.
Joyce is survived by her sons Terry King and Jeff King (Debbie) and daughter Candy Tyberg (Paul); Grandchildren Jackie Petersen (Doug), Terry John King, and Michael King (Christina), Ericka Seifert (John), Adam Tyberg (Sarah), Seth Tyberg (Nacole), Micah Tyberg (Laura), Judah King (Danielle), Tabitha Pfanennstiel, Joshua King (Cheri), Jonathan King, Hannah King (Andrew), Sarah King, Abigail King, 24 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
The family will be having a celebration of Joyce's life on August 10th at 3:00 PM at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel.
