Obituary for Marjorie Margaret "Margie" Seyfert (Lofy)
Marjorie Seyfert, a beloved matriarch, died on Sunday, September 29 at Aurora Medical Center - Washington County in her way of gentle acceptance. She was born Marjorie Margaret Lofy on December 11,1930 into a family with deep farming roots near Richfield, Wisconsin.
Those roots grew ever deeper and wider in the soil of Washington County, where she and her husband Harold owned and operated Hillcrest Farms near Allenton, which had been in the Seyfert family for 6 generations and where she lived until her death. The farm continues to be operated by family members.
She liked working the land beside her husband, whether in her tractor or operating other pieces of machinery on the farm. She was a woman in a man’s field long before women were as directly engaged in agriculture as they are today.
Motherhood was her most ardent calling, passion and gift. She raised her family of five daughters and a son, most of whom live near the farm. With her presence she blessed 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Her maternal nature led many who had lost their mothers to adopt Margie as their own.
Margie endured many challenges in her personal life. Her brother John died when she was 15 years old. This experience produced in her a profound understanding of the sanctity of life. From that time forward she extended an inclusive and welcoming kindness and compassion to everyone she met. Margie sought professional guidance and attended 12 Step groups. There she learned acceptance and new paths to wholeness for herself and her family.
Margie’s life was defined by her deep faith, which was not confined to one religion or way of worship. Her openness and respect for the beliefs of others inspired all who knew her. During her time in hospice many visitors treasured her ability to receive them without judgement and listen with care. She was regarded as best friend to more than a few.
Her son Steve, who went before her in death in March of this year, joked that his mom was the Rose Kennedy of Allenton because so many looked up to her as an example of responsible living. Upon learning of her death one of her grandsons said he had lost his moral compass.
She is survived by her husband Harold of 67 years, children Suzanne Milkus (Douglas Spaeth) of West Bend, Cindy Kuepper (Michael) of Allenton, Mary Dwyer (Tom) of West Bend, Patti Loomans (Brian) of West Bend, and Kim Pfeifer (Tim) of West Bend. Also survived by daughter-in-law Alexandra Torinus. She is further survived by 14 grandchildren: Keri Spaeth (Bud Schlimgen), Chad Spaeth (Kristy), Kelly Milkus (Ryan Setterholm), Tony Milkus, Kami Spaeth (fiance’ Michael Schwartz), Joseph Kuepper (Leah), John Kuepper (Mandy), Matt Dwyer (Kaylyn), Shannon Wolf (Mark), Jason Loomans (Rachel), Holli Loomans (Peter Kropp), Paige Pfeifer, Shane Pfeifer, and Megan Pfeifer. She has 21 great-grandchildren: Kayla, Brooklyn, Ali, Julian, Frankie, Max, Daisy, Lennon, Owen, Ava, Logan, Gwendolyn, Genevieve, Caleb, James, Mason, Riley, Isabelle, Mary, Tessa and Hannah. Also survived by her dear sister Annette Krebs, and brother-in-law Nick Mago.
Marjorie is preceded in death by daughters Jacqueline and Jean, and son Steve; parents John and Isabelle (nee Schulteis) Lofy, siblings John Jr. Lofy, and Rita (Lofy) Mago. She is preceded also by her in-laws, Walter and Ilma (nee Rosenthal) Seyfert.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a visitation from 10:30-11:45pm on Monday, October 14 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 4886 Hwy. 175, Hartford, WI, Mass at 12:00pm, with lunch to follow. Private burial after that at St. Mathias Cemetery, Nabob (Town of West Bend).
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Lawrence Catholic Church or The Ozaukee Washington Land Trust.
