Obituary for Mary Sue Lightner

Mary Sue Lightner, 80, of West Bend, WI, passed away, with her 3 sons by her side, on November 22, 2022. After a long battle with cancer, she is finally at peace.

She was the Loving Mother to Daniel Pansing (Teri), Phillip Pansing and David Pansing (Kris). The Most Amazing Grandmother to Sydney Pansing, Mitchell Pansing, Kyle Dzemske, Abby Nordquist, Joshua Nordquist (Margie) and a Great-Grandmother to Eoin and Liam. Loving Sister to Jeannie Wick (Mike) and Sister-in-Law to Victoria (Tori) Lightner and a Special Aunt to Katie Frederick (Mike), John Lightner, Patric Lightner (Wendy), Matt Knueppel, Sarah Gundrum (Matt) and Olivia Sajdowitz (Kurt).

Family members who preceded her in death include her Father Philip Lightner and Mother Rosemary Knueppel, Brother John Lightner and Niece Jennifer Lightner.

Mary Sue grew up in the Milwaukee area and moved to West Bend where she raised her 3 sons. She received her master’s degree in education. She worked many years in the West Bend school district specializing in special education. After retirement, she spent many of years traveling around the world. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, basket weaving and stitching with her ‘stitch bitches’.

Spending quality time with her family and her Grandkids, whom she loved with all her heart, was always special. Gatherings with family for dinners, coffee, movie watching, sewing lessons, bar-b-ques and even the last minute get togethers enjoying a glass of wine, her storytelling will be remembered and cherished by all.

She decided to purchase a destination home in North Port, FL where she spent 7 years making many friends and enjoying her time as a snowbird during the cold WI winter months!

Mary Sue was an educated, supportive, strong, independent, talented, and quick-witted woman her whole wonderful life. Let us not forget funny, as her 3 sons and extended family, brought that out of her often, even up to the very end.

Mary Sue’s final wishes were for her family and friends to gather for a celebration of life with lots of food and drinks surrounded by conversation and laughter. This is being planned for shortly after the new year!

In lieu of flowers, Memorials are appreciated and will be placed in a Mary Sue Lightner - Special Education Program Scholarship in the West Bend School District.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude and thanks to Serenity Villa (Campbellsport) Staff as well as the Preceptor Hospice team members. Your care, guidance, and amazing friendship to Mary Sue will be remembered and appreciated forever.
