Mary J. Thanos (nee Mapes)
Passed peacefully at her home, after losing her courageous 16 year battle with breast cancer on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at the age of 77. She was born in West Bend, WI, the daughter of the late Harold A Mapes Sr. and Dorothy Mapes (nee Boerger). Mary graduated from West Bend High School in 1964 and married the love of her life Charles “Nick” Thanos on March 29, 1969. She was the acting VP & CFO of SPC Corp and West Bend Sports.
Mary was a well-respected Trap Shooter, winning trophies across the US at major competitions. She was named multiple times to the WI Ladies State Trap Team, as well a prestigious appointment to the 2000 US All American Trap Team.
Mary is survived by her husband of 54 years, Nick Thanos; daughters Nicole (Christopher) Hodgson, and Danielle (Kristopher) Crow; grandchildren Haley (Clark) Crumpacker, Jet Hodgson, Hayden Ohrmund, and Camryn Ohrmund; great-grandchildren Casey and Callie Crumpacker; brother John Mapes; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Bradley Thanos, siblings Harold A. Mapes Jr. and Joan (Walter) Michaels.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, from 4:00PM until 5:45PM at the Phillip Funeral Home, 1420 W. Paradise Dr., West Bend. A short Memorial Service will follow at 6:00PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mary’s name to St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital are appreciated.
