Valentina Rose Skurek, age 26 of Cudahy, left us for her very special place in Heaven, on Tuesday, June 9th, 2020. She was born February 26, 1994, in Onesti, Romania and was welcomed into her new family, parents Michael and Michele Skurek, on April 2, 2000.

As a young girl, she loved drawing, gymnastics, swimming and playing a variety of outdoor sports, especially as a pitcher in softball. Valentina graduated from West Bend West High School where she played the flute, pitched in softball and proudly ran as a member of the Lady Spartans Cross Country team. While attending high school she earned her Certified Nursing Assistant Certification.

She served as a CNA and had just begun a nursing program at Milwaukee Area Technical College. Her loving and humorous personality was appreciated by the residents of the senior living and rehabilitation facilities in which she was employed. She cared deeply for her co-workers and her patients. Most recently she gowned up daily to protect herself while providing care during an outbreak at her facility, concerned but dedicated to helping those in need.

She made a point to spend time with her family and especially cherished visits from her loving “GMa and GPa” whose love for her was beyond measure. She enjoyed bicycle rides and recently took up the joy of running once again. Whenever possible, Valentina loved to laugh and to make people laugh. Most of all, she was incredibly generous -- she loved people and made many friends, from all walks of life.

Valentina will forever be loved by her parents, Michael and Michele Skurek of West Bend, two brothers, Benjamin (Ashley) Skurek of Melbourne, Florida and Roman Skurek of West Bend; Grandparents, Lawrence and Gwendda Harrison of Whitewater; her devoted Aunt Janine and many aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Alfred and Rosalie Kilsdonk of Racine.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held with the support of Phillip Funeral Home to celebrate Valentina’s life, at 2pm on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at Saint Frances Cabrini Church, in West Bend, WI. (Mass will be a live stream on the Phillip Facebook page). Immediately following, by a procession, private family burial will take place at Washington County Memorial Park. Due to current restrictions, there will be no visitation. We ask out of respect for all in attendance that masks be worn during the services and appropriate social distancing is observed.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Valentina’s name to the United Way are most welcome due to their support for critical services when they are needed most, including funding to the 211 IMPACT help line, which Valentina called with her own initial coronavirus questions. (United Way of Washington County, or United Way of Greater Milwaukee/Waukesha County, Make a Gift). Donations may also be made to

Valentina, we love you and will miss you very much!

Noapte Bună, little girl.

I want first say I am so sorry for the loss of such a fun young Woman. I actually had the pleasure of Valentina being one of My CNA's to help Me. She was so funny!! Sometimes I would have to give her a bit of advice. You know She was young 23 when She worked with Me. But She could make Me laugh. She had no problem doing things for Me. In the facility and out. Meaning just running to McDonald's for Me por the gas station if I wanted snacks. She wad a wonderful young Woman. The world lost a nice, sweet, caring, goofy young Woman.

I have so many sweet memories of spending time with Valentina. I remember taking clogging classes with her. When I hear the song "Old Time Rock n Roll" I still think of clogging with Valentina. Valentina had a birthday party at McDonald's one time and I remember thinking how cool she was! The Skureks used to live by a giant hill. Valentina and I would take our scooters or bike up and down the hill. One time I wiped out on the hill. Valentina came running to help me and helped me back to the house. She has always cared for others. I miss my sweet friend, Valentina. I am so sorry for your loss Skurek family. Much love to you

You two were quite pair back in the day Kelsey. We will always have fond memories of you girls together in Wisconsin Rapids. Love to you & Eric.

I remember Valentina when she came to Mid-State Technical College with Michele and one of her brothers. Her mom asked me if I could talk to her in Romanian so she could fell more at home. This was probably just days after her long trip to the USA. After exchanging a few sentences, she gave me a big hug and started to smile. I knew this was a big change for her but I was sure she was going to adjust to it very easily. I also remember telling her to listen to her mom and not to touch the stove in the kitchen. Michele was taking notes at the time, to know how to remind her later on at home. From that moment, I knew she was a very special girl and ready to take life to the next level. Rest in peace, Valentina. (Dumnezeu sa te odihneasca in pace!) I will miss you!

Mihai - thank you for your kind words and remembrance of her. We were always so grateful for your help in translating when she was young.

We remember when Valentina came home to Wisconsin Rapids. Michele & Mike had been advised to limit the number of people initially that should interact with her. However, Michele called very shortly after getting home. “this girl needs some socialization”. We were delighted to not have to wait. Our daughter Kelsey and Valentina played together often, our families trick or treated together, were on the same softball teams, even clogged for a season. We had a special New Year’s Eve party where we turned the clocks back a couple of hours so we could celebrate and still get the kids to bed at a decent time. Such special memories. Rest in peace, Valentina. We will miss you! Herb, Jonna, Erik & Kelsey (Hauser) Kronholm

Thank you, Jonna, for this... you made me smile as there was definitely no quiet period when she arrived. She was "go" from day one.
