Obituary for Howard W. Hanke

Howard Hanke, age 91, passed away Friday, June 26, 2015 at the Lighthouse in West Bend. Howard was born on January 3, 1924 to Walter and Mathilda (nee Halder) Hanke. Howard married Viola Hauck on April 3, 1948 in Milwaukee. Howard served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He retired as a U.S. Postal Carrier and worked 20 years at H&R Block. Howard was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers, the Army Legion Post #24 and the VFW Post 6498 Gross-Yaksh.

Howard is survived by his wife Viola; children Sandy Miller, Rick (Linda), Cheryl (Ernie) Harmon; 6 grandchildren Jon (Jackie) Miller, Lisa (Shawn) Stubing, Chris (fiancee’ Ashley Trappe), Jamie Beno, Scott (Jamie) Harmon, Trent Harmon; 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson; sister Jean (Dick) Lewis; 2 sisters-in-law Mary Bandler and Eleanor Parker. He is further survived by other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Howard is preceded in death by his parents, sister Daryle Hertel, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Memorial Service will be at 10AM Thursday, July 2 at the Phillip Funeral Home (1420 W. Paradise Dr., West Bend). Visitation will be on Wed., July 1 at the funeral home from 5PM - 7PM. Entombment Thurs. July 2 at Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorials appreciated to the Honor Flight Program for Veterans and/or Alzheimer’s Association (620 S. 76th Street, Suite 160, Milwaukee, WI 53214-1599)
