Obituary for Robert Arthur Merten

Robert Merten, age 84, went to the Lord on Wednesday, October 22, 2014. He was born on June 2, 1930 in Slinger to Peter and Melinda (nee Spaeth) Merten. He married Theresa on May 3, 1952 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Slinger. Robert was employed as a truck driver for Yahr’s Ready Mix until he retired.

Robert enjoyed farming and carpentry. He had a love for animals; especially birds. He had a smile that could light up a room and always had a twinkle in his eye. He was a wonderful father and a kind man to everyone he met. He was a hard working family man with a great sense of humor.

Robert is survived by his wife of 62 years, Theresa (nee Kubicek) Merten; children David (Joanne) Merten, Elizabeth (Mark) Weninger, Thomas (Martha) Merten, John (Debra) Merten, Mary Lu (Brad) Bader, and Nancy (John) Lee; grandchildren Jenny, Molly and Kelly Merten, Jessica (Darrell) Wiedmeyer, Aaron (Tracy) Weninger, Nick (Rachael) Merten, Robert Merten, Craig Merten, Brooke (Richard) Hanke, Jerad Merten, Cameron and Travis Bader, and Stephanie, Andy and Peter Lee; great-grandchildren, Brayden, Kennady and Jax Wiedmeyer, Wyatt, Brock, Grant and Grace Merten; siblings Bernice Blank, Ted (Marilyn) Merten, Joan (Tom) Wenninger and Marie (Fred) Rate; further survived by other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Melinda (nee Spaeth) Merten; brother, James Merten; and grandchild, Ryan Thomas Merten.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peter Catholic Church (200 E. Washington St. Slinger, WI 53086) on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at 5:30PM with Father Richard Stoffel presiding. Visitation will be held at St. Peter Catholic Church from 2:30PM until 5:15PM. Interment will take place at New St. Peter Catholic Cemetery in Slinger on Monday, October 27, 2014 at 10:00AM. Memorials to St. Peter Endowment Fund appreciated.
